According to the Washington State Patrol, the 19 year old driver of the vehicle, a woman from Tacoma, died at the scene. She was the driver of a black 1987 Mercedes that was northbound on Highway 167 near Gay Road just after 5 a.m.

Patrol spokeswoman Brandy Kessler said that the Mercedes hit two oncoming vehicles. Half of the car flew into the nearby Puyallup River; the other half stayed on the highway.

State Patrol Sgt. Patrick Pronovost said that the driver was found dead outside of the section of the car near a guardrail.

A 14-year-old Tacoma girl who was a passenger in the Mercedes was thrown onto the pavement, said troopers. She was taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma.

Troopers said a car driven by a 30-year-old Buckley man collided with the Mercedes. The man had critical injuries from the Washington car accident and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, Kessler said.

The 26-year-old Bonney Lake man who was the driver of another oncoming car, was treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup. In addition to the vehicles in the crash, a fourth car was hit by debris.
