Car in water, passenger dead, after Tacoma chase

A man from Tacoma has been accused of driving a stolen car into the water at a marina, leaving his passenger dead following the Washington auto accident..

On Saturday, just before 10 p.m. a Tacoma police officer determined a car had been stolen by running the license plate, said Officer Mark Fulghum. He also said that police pulled the car over but the driver sped away.

Officers called it off the chase which ensued because it was too dangerous. But, they continued following the car until the street dead-ended at a marina. An officer watched as the car sunk and saw the driver climb onto the dock.

A police dive team pulled the other man, whose name has not been released, from the water. He died at the scene.

Subsequently booked into the Pierce County Jail, the driver is facing charges of suspicion of vehicular assault, possession of stolen property and eluding police.
