Both boys are from Sunnyside, but their names were not released. According to the news release from the Washington State Patrol, the 14-year-old was headed on East Edison Avenue about 8:45 a.m. in a 1992 BMW when he failed to yield for a stop sign. The car crossed State Route 241 and landed on its wheels in a canal on the north side of the road.

Although Troopers said they did not know whether the driver was wearing a seat belt, it appears that the passenger was. The news release indicated that intoxicants were not involved.

The cause of the Sunnyside car accident and any charges remained under investigation.
