Wrong-Way I-5 Driver Triggers 5-Car Wreck in Lynnwood

A woman, apparently drunk, was driving the wrong way in her SUV on I-5 and caused a five-car collision in the southbound lanes of I-5 near Lynnwood. The Lynnwood SUV accident happened late Friday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The driver, a 44-year-old woman from Monroe, was the only one injured in the crash, said trooper Keith. She was taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett with possible neck injuries. She was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, he said.

“The accident was reported at 10:33 p.m. beneath the I-405 bridge. The woman’s white sport utility vehicle was reported headed northbound in the southbound lanes from 196th Street SW”, Leary said.

“She hit two different cars, then hit another car that ran into another. It’s very lucky in a wrong way collision. This could have been much worse,” he said.
