A car involved in a pedestrian hit and run in Seattle is being sought by Seattle police. The car struck a 6 year old girl at the intersection of South Henderson Street and Seward Park Ave South, on Thursday afternoon.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was driving south on Seward Park Avenue South when it “veered” into the oncoming lanes and hit a girl walking in a crosswalk. Seattle policewoman Renee Witt said that the impact launched the girl approximately 20 feet in the air. It also knocked out several of the girl’s teeth and left her with nonfatal injuries. The car then left the scene.

According to police spokesman Mark Jamieson, the car involved in the Seattle car crash could be a Lincoln. Police don’t have the fleeing vehicle’s license plate, but witnesses said the two men in the car appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s, Jamieson said.

A woman who was struck by a car near the intersection of 188th Street SW and Highway 99 in Lynnwood was rushed to a Seattle hospital after the pedestrian accident, officials said. The crash occurred just before 10 a.m.

According to Marybeth O’Leary, a Lynnwood fire spokeswoman, officials have not yet determined how the woman, who is described in her 30s, ended up in the road and was ultimately hit.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

A Marysville woman was hit and killed early Wednesday morning by an apparent hit-and-run driver. There was no information for Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives about the vehicle involved in the death. They spent several hours at the scene after the pedestrian accident, collecting evidence and taking measurements along the road.

A gas can was recovered at the scene by detectives. They also found a motorcycle that was parked south of the scene, on the west side of 34th Avenue NE. Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said that it’s unclear if the motorcycle is connected to the incident. Investigators are asking for the public’s help to locate the driver or in providing details about the hit-and-run accident.

The 56 year old woman was found about 6:40 a.m. by a man driving southbound on I-5, Hover said. The woman was lying in a grassy area near a barbed wire fence between 34th Avenue NE and the freeway. Hover also said that the woman had died at the scene.

According to Komotv.com, many Seattleites were outraged when a municipal court judge ordered fines, no driving, and community service for a driver found guilty of hitting and killing a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Ephraim Schwartz will have his conviction erased from his record in two years, if he avoids driving and completes the community service. He is also avoiding any jail time for the Seattle pedestrian accidents.

“Where is the incentive for people to drive safely and responsibly?” asked Rebecca Deehr, executive director of Feet First, a pedestrian advocacy group.

“Besides the fines and ticketing that may result from not driving safely and responsibly, there is no incentive,” she said.

Deehr also said that the consequences for drivers in situations like this should match “the gravity of their action.” Without consequences, she said, “we can’t expect that drivers will take the extra step to put down the latte, stop looking at their cell phone, or to take the other necessary precautions to avoid hitting a pedestrian.”

On Monday, a man who was crossing railroad tracks near downtown Stanwood was hit by a fast-moving train.

Just before 9:30a.m., an Amtrak train struck the man. He suffered life-threatening injuries in the Seattle Pedestrian Accident and was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle by helicopter. No update of his condition was available.

According to witnesses, the man ducked under the railroad crossing arms as the train approached near the 8600 block of 271st Street NW. Stanwood Police Chief David Bales said that the man tried to run across the tracks and out of the way,

“We actually see this frequently when people are hit by trains,” Bales said. “They’re looking at them head-on and don’t realize how fast the train is going. They often underestimate the speed of the trains.”

Amtrak trains generally are travelling more than 50 mph when they come through town, Bales said. It was unknown how fast the train was moving Monday. Pedestrians and motorists should never walk or drive around lowered railroad crossing arms, Bales said Continue reading
